ZEIT-FUGEN / inbetweens #4: Darmstadt / NEUES PALAIS

A performative-installative spatial intervention resurrects a building on the theater forecourt

This project sheds light on the past: a large walk-in installation aims to reanimate buried knowledge about a place that shaped the cityscape of Darmstadt for a long time. The Institute of Geodesy (Geodetic Measuring Systems and Sensor Technology) supported the project. and resurrect the Neues Palais on the theater forecourt with centimeter precision. A film has also been made about this,

The New Palace stood on today's square in front of the theater until 1955. It was built in 1864/65 as the last grand ducal city residence.

Today, nothing reminds us of its unusual architecture or its eventful history. The project ZEIT-FUGEN / inbetweens #4: Darmstadt / Neues Palais makes the historical layering of the site visible and emotionally tangible.

The Institute of Geodesy (Department of Geodetic Measurement Systems and Sensor Technology) supported the project by measuring the New Palace. There is a short film about this, which you can watch on YouTube:

The performative installation will take place from April 29 to May 5. Every day, Georg-Büchner-Platz will change and gradually transform into a huge installation based on the floor plans of the Neues Palais. Come along and visit the ballroom, the study of Grand Duke Ludwig von Hessen und zu Rhein or the library, which will grow into a large storehouse of knowledge within the installation.
